Moreno Valley Regional Learning Center

Welcome

My name is Theresa Swickla and I am the Instructional Specialist in charge of the Moreno Valley Regional Learning Center. I was a teacher with RCOE for over 14 years and although I taught in most of our programs, I specialized in the Independent Study/CBK programs. I am excited to finally have a permanent home for these programs and look forward to the great opportunities we can now provide our students at the beautiful center.

The Moreno Valley Regional Learning Center is an alternative education school offering a variety of programs and activities for the "non-traditional" student. Our programs include the Independent Study Program, Come Back Kids (CBK) Program, Cal-SAFE Program, CTE Health-related courses. Our high school diploma programs are WASC accredited.

At MVRLC, the staff is committed to our core values of building relationships that promote trust, engaging in open and honest communication, and focusing on the needs of our students to be successful in school and in life. Some of our traditions include a monthly student breakfast where recognition and successes are celebrated as well as a formal graduation ceremony, Senior Prom, and Senior Grad Nite.

The Independent Study Program targets students in grades 7th through 12th. Students work independently on standards-based curricula and meet with a teacher on a weekly basis. Middle School students must have a parent/guardian active in the educational delivery and weekly meeting process. Most of our students come to us because the traditional classroom setting did not meet their educational and personal needs.

The Come Back Kids (CBK) program targets students' ages 16-22 years old that have dropped out of school. Students work independently on standards-based curricula and meet with a teacher on a weekly basis. Our teachers develop individualized learning plans to target each student's needs.

The Cal-Safe program is a daily classroom program for middle and high school students that are pregnant and/or parenting, including young men. We have an on-site nursery and toddler rooms where all students are required to participate as part of their educational plan. We provide a supportive and safe learning environment for both parent and child.
