Edison donates to Career Pathway Partnership project at Sherman Indian
Southern California Edison has donated $25,000 as part of their ongoing Diversity Initiative program to the Sherman Indian High School Career Pathway Partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education.
This grant will be used to support job shadowing and internship experiences for Native American students who are part of the Career Pathways for the Energy and Utilities. Students who attend Sherman Indian High School come from Tribes throughout the United States.
Tracey Vackar, Project Coordinator at the Riverside County Office of Education, stated that the students in this pathway are instructed on basic principles of electronic circuitry, nature of light sources, light amplification; and the integration of optical systems with electronic systems. The Sherman students are instructed with working prototype models that allow them to practice industry regulations and requirements to safely measure, test, diagnose, and analyze relationships between voltage, current, resistance, power, gas and fluid pressure, and flow rate. The training models allow students to capture and convert energy from wind and solar sources for power management. The Sherman Indian High School Career Pathway program partnership is honored to have received a total of $50,000 from Southern California Edison.
Sherman Indian High School students from the Energy and Utilities pathway recently presented and displayed their practice model at the CTE-TEACH Conference that was held December 8, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario.
