Four teams enter Mock Trial Finals
Four teams are heading to the finals of the 29th Annual Riverside County Mock Trial competition to be held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Riverside Historic Courthouse. Mock Trial began February 9 with 25 teams and more than 500 students.
Centennial High School (Red), Woodcrest Christian High School, Hemet High School and Poly (Riverside) High School emerged victorious from Wednesday night’s Elite 8 round at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
Competing in the semi-final round Saturday starting at 9 a.m. will be Centennial vs. Woodcrest Christian, and Hemet vs. Poly. The winners of each pairing will then compete in the final round which begins at 1 p.m.
Riverside County’s winning team will compete March 25-27 at the California State Mock Trial Competition, which will also be held in Riverside.
Mock Trial involves students arguing cases in front of real judges and scored by real attorneys. The case this year is People v. Woodson, a case involving an assault with a deadly weapon and cyber bullying. The event is sponsored by the Riverside County Office of Education, Riverside County Bar Association, and Riverside Superior Court.
Individual winners were announced February 26 (press release with photos from ceremony).
