Educational Services | Copernicus
The Copernicus Project provides support for over 160 elementary science teachers. The Copernicus Project is a consortium for the preparation of highly-qualified K-12 science teachers. The Teacher Support Center at RCOE in conjunction with University of California, Riverside (UCR) assists science teachers from the Alvord, Corona-Norco, Lewis Center (charter school), Moreno Valley, Palm Springs, Rialto, Riverside and Val Verde Unified School Districts in the following areas:
- Preparation of Academic Subject Matter
- Action Research Implementation
- English Language Learner Training
- Technology Equipment and Assistance
- Special Populations Assistance
- Site Administrator Forums
Participating teachers attend a two-week Science Summer Institute at UCR where they participate in an intensive introduction to the 5 E’s instructional strategy and experience in-depth instruction in one of five science content areas: Life Science, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics and Astronomy. RCOE coordinators support the teachers through site visits throughout the school year.
