Children and Family Services | Mental Health Respite Child Care Program
Riverside County Department of Mental Health (DOMH), in collaboration with Children’s Services Unit (CSU), provides respite child care to eligible parents/guardians whose children are receiving services through DOMH full-service partnership programs. The goal of the program is to provide stress-relief to these parents/guardians. The program is funded locally by DOMH and the Parent Support and Training Program. The respite care is initiated by DOMH clinicians, and a referral is sent to CSU to provide child care services.
The respite child care provides parents/guardians limited time away from the children to take “a break.” This program often prevents an out-of-home placement, thereby fostering family unity. Families served by this program are eligible for 24 hours of care per month for up to six months. The care can be provided in licensed child care centers, licensed family child care homes, or license-exempt home settings.
