Board of Education | Lisa Conyers

Lisa Conyers, Ph.D., has been a member of the County Board since 2003.  She has served as Board President and Vice President and for two terms as the Board’s representative to the County School Boards Association.  She was re-elected to office in June 2008.

Dr. Conyers is Vice President of Educational Services at the Moreno Valley Campus of Riverside Community College District.  She has been recognized for her role as a program developer, having collaborated on the implementation of various new degree programs involving community partnerships, including, most notably, the Program in Community Interpretation in Spanish and the Physician Assistant Program.  She is fully fluent in Spanish, having lived in Spain and Mexico for eight years, and has traveled extensively.  Among her former administrative appointments, she directed a large American language and culture program in Madrid, Spain.  In 2003, she was a Fulbright Exchange Administrator to Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Conyers served previously as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner for the City of Riverside; board member of the International Relations Council of Riverside; chairman of the Riverside-Cuautla, Mexico, Sister City Committee; board member of the League of Women Voters of Riverside; and board member of the Moreno Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  In 2001, she was recognized as by the Riverside County YWCA as a Woman of Achievement; in 2005, by the Moreno Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce with an Education “Estrella” Award; in 2006, by Sister Cities International with a Distinguished Volunteer Award; in 2008, by the University of Redlands Town & Gown as a Woman of Distinction in Education and Civic Affairs; and, also in 2008, by the National Chair Academy with an Exemplary Leader Award.

She received her B.A. in Spanish and Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of California at Riverside, and her M.A. in Spanish from New York University.  She is married and lives in Moreno Valley.
